Full Field of Twelve Fillies Set for $100,000 Safely Kept Stakes
On Saturday at Laurel Park, the track will host the $100,000 Safely Kept Stakes. Restricted to three-year-old fillies, the seven-furlong contest has drawn a competitive field of twelve.
Hot City Girl has been tabbed as the morning line favorite in the wide open field at odds of 5-2 for trainer Linda Rice. A chestnut daughter of City Zip, she has won four of her ten starts and earned her first graded stakes victory two starts back in the Charles Town Oaks Stakes (G3). She was last seen winning an optional claiming race and will be trying for her third straight victory. Cornelio Velasquez will be aboard and they will break from post position five.
Tricky Zippy trying for second stakes victory
Second choice at morning line odds of 4-1 is Tricky Zippy for trainer James Jerkens. A chestnut daughter of City Zip, she has been on the board in seven of her ten starts and is a four-time winner. She was second last time out in the Iroquois Stakes at Belmont Park and will be trying to earn her second black type victory. Angel Arroyo will be in the irons and they will break from post seven.
Eloquent Tribute going for first black type win
Also in the field at morning line odds of 6-1 is Eloquent Tribute for trainer Rudy Rodriguez. A bay daughter of Tapit, she was purchased for $175,000 and has been on the board in five of her eight starts with a maiden win to her credit. She will be attempting to earn her first stakes victory and was second in an allowance race last out. Manuel Franco will be aboard and they will break from post position three.
